SENIOR INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE

Each community is served by a publicly supported Senior Information and Assistance telephone referral service. This number is usually your best starting point. Even if you are trying to locate services in another part of the state or country, this program will put you in touch with its counterpart in that community and offer information on the full spectrum of senior care resources; eligibility requirements; etc.

PRIVATE CONSULTATION AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES

A federal program designed to replace part of the income that you ad your family lose when you retire, become severely disabled or die. Provides applications and administration for federal Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Medicare, Social Security Disability Income, and survivor and death benefit programs. To receive Social Security benefits, an individual must have paid into the Social Security system for a certain period.

SSI pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled and/or blind and have limited income and own few resources. Individuals may qualify for SSI even if they have not paid into the Social Security system.

DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS (VA)

The Department of Veterans Affairs provides many benefits to those who have served on active military duty in the armed forces, and to their dependents. Services include VA medical care, burial and death benefits, and disability benefits.
